BUCKEYE LAKE – It’s doubtful that nearly 100 Christmas gifts will ever be beneath a tree, but they’ll be extremely appreciated just the same.
Recently members of the First Community Church’s Joy Bible Class assembled 100 Christmas gift boxes for the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child program. The gift boxes, which contain toys and hygiene products, are bound for poverty, disaster, and war stricken regions around the world to provide Christmas gifts for children who are very unlikely to receive presents otherwise.
First Community Church Coordinator Kellie Vaughn said her church is a community-wide collection point for Operation Christmas Child gifts; several other local organizations are participating in the program as well. The First Community Church can accept Operation Christmas Child gifts the week of Nov. 15 through Nov. 23-Monday and Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday 5 to 8 p.m., Friday 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.
Vaughn said the boxes would be taken to Zanesville from the First Community Church, and then to South Carolina before being shipped globally. She said the First Community Church collected 607 boxes in total last year.
