Liam Gallagher: Oasis to record under new name without Noel

Liam Gallagher has confirmed that the bitter rift with his fellow Oasis star brother is permanent by announcing that he and the band’s remaining members have formed a new group and are recording together.

Liam told MTV Italy that since Noel Gallagher quit the iconic group in August, the rest of Oasis has been recording demos and plan to have a new album out under a new name next summer.

“We’ve been demoing some songs that we’ve had about, that we’ve had for a bit, so we’re just doing that on the quiet, not making a big fuss about it,” he said.

“After Christmas we might go into the studio and record them and hopefully have an album out in July.”

Despite losing Noel, the band’s chief songwriter, Liam predicted the new band’s music would be better than that of Oasis, which gave birth to seven No 1 albums.

“I’m feeling confident about the songs we’re doing at the moment. I feel a million percent confident about them - that they could be better than Oasis,” he said.

Noel, who penned the feted chart hits Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, quit the band after an explosive argument with his younger brother minutes before they were due on stage for the Paris en Seine festival.

The guitarist and occasional vocalist publicly accused frontman Liam of "violent and verbal intimidation” and said that despite keeping separate tour buses and backstage areas, he could no longer work with him.

But yesterday Liam played down the bitter split, saying he had always shared a fraught relationship with his brother and was proud that they had managed to work together as long as they did.

“We’ve kind of never been that close. We’ve been in a band and all that, but we sort of kept to ourselves.

“We only sort of hung out when we were on tour… we didn’t have much of a solid relationship except for that we both thought Oasis was great.

“I love him to bits, you know what I mean, but we just don’t get on.”

“We’ve had 18 years of getting it together and keeping it together so I think we’ve done well. I’d rather think of it like that rather than anyone worrying about the split. He’ll make his records and I’ll make my records and hopefully people will like them."

The news is unlikely to surprise Noel who publicly lambasted Oasis bassist Andy Bell and guitarist Gem Archer for failing to support him and siding with Liam.

Shortly after quitting the band, he said in a statement that he had been disappointed by the “lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates”.

But they appeared to ignore the rebuke, with Bell immediately taking his girlfriend on holiday to Italy with Liam and his wife Nicole Appleton.

Noel, who was long spoken of his desire to make a solo album, recently confirmed he will record alone.
