A bright red fire engine carried Santa Claus to Centralia’s annual community Christmas gathering Friday night in George Washington Park, much to the delight of the dozens of onlookers under twinkling white lights.
The crowd also enjoyed the annual reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by former Centralia City Councilman Bill Moeller and songs by 2009 Miss Lewis County, Hannah Ash, among others. Popular radio reporter Paul Walker served as master of ceremonies.
Santa didn’t stay long in the park before he jaunted across the street to the downtown Fox Theatre, where he personally met with children. Claus said most children in Centralia have been “good to great” boys and girls this year, and very few will be receiving coal in their stockings.
