CHRISTMAS has come early for a 30-something man from Brisbane's southside who won $40 million in last night's OZ 7 Lotto draw.

The winner casually handed over his ticket to be checked at an agency just before lunch and was shocked to be told he was a high winner, the Courier Mail reports.

A quick phone call to Golden Casket confirmed that he was holding the winning first division ticket worth $40 million.

“I just can’t believe this,” the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said.

“I was thinking that maybe I had won a couple of hundred or maybe even a couple of thousand dollars.”

The 30-something man from Brisbane’s southside thanked his lucky stars he did his Christmas shopping last week.

“I was buying some Christmas cards last Thursday and decided to pick up a ticket as I saw it was a big $40 million draw.

He says his only immediate plan for his multimillion dollar windfall is to buy a house.

“I moved here from interstate a while ago and missed out on the full first home owner’s grant,” he said.

“Now I can settle here in Queensland and keep enjoying the sunshine and the weather.”

The Quick Pick entry was purchased at Nextra Chermside Newsagency at Westfield Shoppingtown.

The ticket was the only first division winner and took home the whole prize pool.
