Mangalore: Contests at St Aloysius High School Bring Out Christmas Spirit in Participants Pics: Hemanth Studio

Mangalore, Dec 19: A number of teams participating in the Christmas bounty celebrations enjoyed the spirit of the carol singing contest organized by St Aloysius High School in association with ‘Namma TV’ channel on Friday December 18.
The ‘Grand Christmas Carols Contest’ and ‘Grand Christmas Star’ were held on the school grounds.
A total of 12 teams from various parishes and colleges in the district participated in the carols contest. St Aloysius College won the first prize while St Agnes came in second. Vamanjoor parish won the third prize.


























Out of 30 contestants in the Christmas star contest, Maria Pinto won the first prize. Movin Pinto won the second prize and Lesly Steven Cardoza came in third.  
In each category, first prize winners were awarded Rs 5,000 while second prize was Rs 3,000 and third prize was Rs 2,000. 
Headmaster of the high school Fr Melvin Pinto and Suresh Rao Kokkada, marketing director, Namma TV, presented awards to the winners. 
Popular music group of the city, ‘Judha Band’ with its popular artists, performed ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Baila’ with a blend of Konkani and Western songs.

Mangalore: FMCI Celebrates Christmas with Colourful Events

Mangalore, Dec 19: Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) celebrated Christmas in front of the Ashakirana building on its hospital premises in Kankanady on Friday December 18.
Carols, play, mime show, and dance formed a part of the celebration.  The carols were sung in Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, and English. 
Nursing students acted out God’s message through a play and homeopathic students presented a mime focusing on greed and anti-social activities of humans.


























Shrinivas S Kamath, president, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) was the chief guest at the programme and said that FMCI is the pride of the city due to its service to humanity irrespective of caste and creed. 
“With its ‘heal and comfort’ motto the hospital has become a great asset to society and its importance has been understood by the people right at its opening, where it was started with leprosy treatment and has now grown into a humanity service organization”, he said.
Kamath released the bulletin ‘Christmas-2009’. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI, delivered the Christmas message. 
Administrator of Fr Muller Medical College Fr Dennis D’Sa welcomed all. Heads of the institutions and departments and others were present on the occasion.
Staff and students of Fr Muller Homeopathic Medical College, College of Nursing, School of Nursing, homeopathic pharmacy department, and the hospital, participated in singing carols, acting out skits, plays, and mime.  A lucky draw was also arranged.
The students of institutions, children, and the audience enjoyed the arrival of Santa Claus at the end of the programme.

 Watch Video: Click Here Mangalore, Nov 16: Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCDOS) in the city organized Christmas carols at the St Sebastian Church Hall in Bendore, on Sunday November 15.

Both the colleges had organized the event to celebrate Christmas. The colleges have been conducting this event over the past three years with the effort of students and faculty members.
The students incorporated skits and chorus which made it spectacular with the added charm of instrumental music and acting.

















Dr Surendra Shetty, dean of MCDOS, addressed the gathering and said that the city celebrates Christmas with a lot of faith and tradition.
“The celebration of the holy festival made college students think of celebrating in a unique way”, he said.

The skit was directed by Dr Sharath Krishnamurthy and instrumental music was by Dr Sourjya Banerjee and Konish Biswas. Musician Oscar Wealtha gave training in chorus and music.  

Dr Vivian D’Souza, professor and head of the department of biochemistry, KMC, was the Santa Claus.

Dr Christopher Pais, professor and head of medicine, KMC, welcomed all. Dr Maria Kuruvilla, professor and head of department of skin, KMC, deivered the keynote address. 
Dr Thangam Varghese, professor and head of surgery, KMC, gave the message. Dr John Ramapuram, professor in medicine, KMC, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Karen Boaz, professor and head in MCODOS, conducted the programme.
