DUNDEE Rep’s award- winning ensemble gathered on stage yesterday for their final rehearsal ahead of the opening of A Christmas Carol.
Adapted by playwright Neil Duffield and directed by the Rep’s artistic director, James Brining, Charles Dickens’s immortal tale is bought to life as the true meaning of Christmas is revealed to the curmudgeonly Ebenezer Scrooge.
Scrooge, played by John Buick, is visited one Christmas Eve by three spirits; Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future who highlight his solitary, miserable existence.
Tight-fisted Scrooge is taken on a journey towards redemption before awaking as a reformed man on Christmas morning.
The production is set in a Scottish Victorian mill town and has live music.
Mr Buick said: “Ebenezer Scrooge has been a great character to play as he changes throughout the show.
“He starts off being unpopular with nothing but his money to keep him company and as he goes on a magical journey with the help of three Christmas sprits he changes for the better.
“Rehearsals have gone well and I am now looking forward to performing A Christmas Carol in front of our first live audience.”
A Christmas Carol includes performances by Robert Paterson as Marley, Duncan Anderson as Peter Cratchit and three members of the Dundee Rep Youth Theatre who share the role of Tiny Tim.
