ANDY DRIVER has admitted his agent has held hush hush talks with George Burley over him pledging his allegiance to Scotland.
And the Oldham-born winger has vowed to make a decision on his international future before Christmas.
A fifa rule change will allow the England Under-21 cap to play for his adopted homeland but Scotland boss Burley has told the player to announce his international choice before he selects him.
Driver, who won't be in tomorrow's squad for next week's friendly in Wales, insists he is embarrassed that he is the centre of attention given his current club form is not good enough to merit a call-up.
However, the 21-year-old admits discussions have taken place with Hampden chiefs.
He said: "A few people, like my agent, have held talks but I'm trying to stay away from it.
"It was more off the record to see what is happening. I'll have to make a decision eventually but I don't feel I'm in a position to do that at the moment."
Asked if he would make the call before Christmas, Driver said: "It won't be long but I want to find my form before thinking about anything like that."
The winger, who was helping promote the club's annual Hall of Fame dinner, admits there would be no better time for Hearts to return to form than on Saturday against arch rivals Hibs.
He added: "It's a massive game for us and if we can get a victory it could turn our season around."
Meanwhile, Michael Stewart last night accused the Press of being "parasites" who twisted his words to suit an agenda.
The Hearts skipper claimed the media used a promotional event for Remembrance Day in Edinburgh on Monday to ignite the rivalry before this weekend's derby with Hibs.
After reading headlines in many newspapers that reported Stewart's claim the Easter Road side were lucky, the player hit back on his club's website.
He said: "They are complete parasites. They tried to manipulate, twist and put a spin on everything that has been said. They have shown a complete lack of respect in my opinion.
"It's now got to the stage where they have really p***** me off.
"I won't be speaking to the papers again as they cannot be trusted and clearly will do what they want to suit their agendas.
"We went along to promote a fantastically worthy cause with Armistice Weekend coming up and all the papers have done is spin everything round into a pile of **** which I never said."
