Burlington Changes Parade Name Back to "Christmas Parade"

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) - Burlington is putting aside political correctness this weekend as the city's Holiday Parade returns to its original name, The Christmas Parade.

The city's parade is held in downtown Burlington on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. City officials changed the parade name a few years ago so the parade could include Thanksgiving events.

The name-change caused many people to complain to the city about taking the word "Christ" out of the parade name. The city listened to the complaints and made the change this year.

"It's nice to not be so concerned with being politically correct... we have traditions to maintain," said Chuck Thompson, an employee at Moorefield's, a store in Burlington.

While the city has changed the parade name, many in Burlington said they want to see the parade held closer to Christmas day.
