Watching the children that lined Second Street for the Santa Claus Parade, one could almost see the visions of what they want for Christmas dancing around in their heads.
So, what do they want? "A new skateboard," says Maxime Marcil, 9, from Long Sault. "It's hard but I try," he says of the sport.
Maxime's older sister, Daniella, says she has everything she needs, but dad appears to know better.
"She'd be happy with some money," says Paul Marcil. "She's at the age where she likes to shop."
Daniella, who got a camera last year, smiled in agreement.
Last year, the Marcil family had the misfortune to wind up on a cruise of the Bahamas and Key West. This year, however, they plan to be in church on Christmas eve.
"It's Jesus' birthday, the presents, and all the snow outside," Maxime explained to be his favourite parts of the season.
Wally Coleman of Cornwall stood with his daughter Kayla as Saturday's parade was about to begin.
Kayla, 8, got a karaoke machine for Christmas last year. She loves to belt out tunes from High School Musical or Taylor Swift. But Kayla's seen enough of her brother Kyle's video games to know that she wants a Nintendo Wii for Christmas this year.
"He's our gamer, she's our singer," said Wally, who wouldn't say no if Santa offered to help him with the siding work on his house.
"Santa's coming!" Kayla said, hopping around. "I love going to grandma's for Christmas. She puts candy on the table."
The small Simard family also enjoys the family aspect of Christmas in Cornwall. "We go house hopping," said Josee Simard, who tried to keep her eyes on son Campbell, 7, who was eager for the parade. "He doesn't stay put very much," she smiled.
For Christmas in 2008, Campbell got some superhero action figures (Superman is the strongest, he noted), as well as Pokemon cards. This year, he's hoping Santa brings some Lego Star Wars toys because he loves the action of war, he said.
"It's about spending time with each other, not the gifts," Josee reminded. "But I like to see him getting something, see his face. I watch Christmas through his eyes."
